Explore the New Territories by Bicycle!
Hong Kong is famous for its tall buildings and busy streets, but did you know it also has beautiful green spaces and long cycling paths? The New Territories, or NT, is a great place to enjoy a relaxing bike ride, especially if you are new to cycling or want to spend time outdoors with friends and family.
One of the most popular cycling routes is the Tuen Mun to Ma On Shan cycle track. It's very long, over 60 kilometers, but you don't have to ride the whole thing! Many people choose to cycle shorter sections. For example, you can start from Tai Po Market and cycle to Tai Mei Tuk. This part is mostly flat and offers stunning views of Tolo Harbour. You can rent bicycles at many points along the path, making it very convenient.
Another easy and pleasant route is in Sha Tin. You can rent a bike near Sha Tin Park or Penfold Park and cycle along the Shing Mun River. This path is also flat and wide, perfect for a leisurely ride. You will see local landmarks and beautiful scenery. There are often kiosks selling drinks and snacks along the way, so you can take a break and enjoy the view.
Before you go, remember a few things. Always wear a helmet for safety. Check the weather forecast; it's best to cycle on a sunny day, but not too hot! Bring water and some snacks.
